The reports started leaking out of China about a new kind of flu, maybe a bioweapon, genetically engineered by a Chinese military lab, maybe released into the wild by sheer incompetence on the part of a scientists or bureaucrats, maybe released deliberately by the CPC, or by one of its enemies, or by a disgruntled political rival, it was impossible to say.

I live in a society when you can freely have a position on COVID: fear it, tolerate it, deny it. Same about vaccines: push it, tolerate it, avoid it. Or lockdowns.
Yet people are not parsing these 2 crazy years, they just move on. Which leaves only one force to silence them: embarrassment.
I don't know a single person, public or private, who got things right from the first Wuhan news in January to this February, when Putin ended COVID.
Somehow the social shaming mechanism that makes little people police each other, in an environment where the diversity of public positions was allowed, everyone became a loud advocate of something out of proportion, something stupid. There are no victors. So we all pretend this never happened.
